The Emerald Casket

Art Room Playtime

I haven’t had a lot of time to spend with my paints and pastels. I have classes already paid for and lined up to begin, but I have writing to do that has to be my first priority.

So, what I have been doing is playing.

This first thing isn’t really a “piece.” It’s lots of pieces of papers from things I’ve painted or specialty paper I like. I liked the colors and the themes and washi taped (so I can use the papers elsewhere, if I like) to a piece of cardboard as sort of a mood board. It’s just something to inspire me.

I had a photograph of a dolmen in Ireland and decided to scratch and scruff with my NuPastels. I really like the foreground, but I’m not satisfied with my sky. 🙁

Lastly, this is a watercolor redo of sorts. I’d done a smaller piece but ended up with the flowers being cut off at the top, so I decided to try it again because I love the colors. And I love the doodle-tracing on the leaves and flowers. Working with so much black is tricky because it leaves shadows—not that I don’t find it kind of cool, but something to remember next time. I also liked the effect of spritzing water on the vase. I’ll probably play again with this theme.
